About
I am a 32-year old wife and mama living in a beloved semi-urban ex-logging town nestled in a harbor. Our current household consists of my husband and I, our two children Sophie (7), and Nels (5), three kitties, four chickens, and just between you and me I’m hoping to add a couple of quail.
I grew up (mostly) in Hoquiam, Washington, the United States – where I’m currently residing now. I did well in school and had a pretty good childhood; I used to call my family Hippie Trash (but I’ve since stopped using the term “trash” to describe people). I went to college right out of high school and got an engineering degree and worked in engineering for a while. That was pretty fun and I was pretty good at it.
My husband Ralph and I have been together about 11 years, married eight. We started our family in the lovely seaport of Port Townsend, Washington, the United States. I met some wonderful people here; this is where I learned to breastfeed, to birth a baby at home, to relish growing my own food and eating locally, and get up to all sorts of other craziness.
We moved in 2007 to be close to my childhood home and my father, who was dying of cancer. I lost him in August 2008.
Anyone who knows me knows I love to sew, to cook, and to write. It’s hard to make time for that when you’re also homeschooling two insanely active, crazy kids. Bicycling is a way of life for us (especially with the children). People assume because we grow a lot of our food that I also love to garden: not so much, although I do love to cook and eat the resulting bounty.
I smoke (sometimes), drink (sometimes), swear (kind of a lot). I believe in Jesus. I love reading Thich Nhat Hanh & Laura Shapiro. I like to watch films, mostly silly B-movies, although I rarely make it out to the theater.
